Opening Situation – While Katniss was up in a tree, the gamemakers have started a fire throughout the whole forest in order to get all of the tributes together so that they can fight. Katniss gets hit by one of the fireball blasts and she gets severely burned. As Katniss stands in the pool to soothe her burns she gets chased by the career tributes and she takes cover in a tree. When night fall comes, Katniss sees Rue and she points out the tracker jacker nest which she cuts down to get away from the career tributes the next morning.
Climax – The tracker jackers kill Glimmer and Katniss takes her bow and arrow. Now she feels that because she is highly skilled in archery, she has a big advantage over her competition in the whole game.
Falling action – She and Rue both make an alliance because they both would need each other. Katniss is good with the bow and arrow and she can also hunt and Rue is quick and she can forage for food because of her speed, she’ll never get caught.
Final outcome – Both Katniss and Rue with their newly formed alliance, conspire against the career tributes to cut off their supply of weapons and food.
Character – Katniss – The main character of the hunger games and the winner. She is a skilled archer and shares the winners seat with fellow district 12 Peeta Melark after she devised a plan so they didn’t have to kill each other
Peeta – The supporting character of the hunger games. For a little while in the movie he was with the career tributes in order to stay alive. They wanted Katniss and once they got her their plan was to kill him.
Cato – He is the main antagonist of the hunger games. He is also the leader of the career tributes. In the end he is killed by Katniss’ bow and arrow after he tries to kill Peeta
Rue – The little girl from district 11 that helped Katniss and who made a strong alliance with. She removed the venom from Katniss after she was stung by the tracker jacker. She and Katniss make a good team because they don’t need to go to the cornucopia to get food.
Glimmer – The career tribute that was killed by the tracker jacker nest that Katniss dropped on the careers campsite.
Conflict – Man versus society and man versus man
Theme – There is definitely an entertainment factor when it comes to suffering and violence. There is also strength in numbers for example in a show like ‘the challenge’ they need to build alliances to stay in the game. In the hunger game the career tributes built an alliance so they can survive and be the last one’s standing and Rue and Katniss both built an alliance because they realized that they could survive longer and even win the games if they worked together. Text to world – At the start of chapter 13, the gamemakers had started the fire to entice the audience. In our society subconsciously we definitely are entertained by reality tv shows partly because of the drama, fights and alliances such as ‘the bad girls club’, ‘the challenge’, and ‘bad girls all star battle’
Text to text – The part in the book where Katniss gets her leg burned by the fire blasts, it reminds me of the book ‘Hatchet’ when the main character Brian injured his leg from kicking the porcupine.
